HOW TO REPORT CHILD ABUSE & NEGLECT
As soon as you suspect that a child is being abused or neglected, please report your concerns to the New York Statewide Central Register of Child Abuse and Maltreatment (SCR) at 800-342-3720— open 24-hours a day to take your call. You can make this call anonymously.
Even if you have little information on which to base your suspicion of abuse or neglect, you should still call the SCR. Trained professionals will determine whether the information you provided can be registered as a report. If it can be, the SCR will then alert local child protective services to begin an investigation.
To make the report, please prepare to give as much of the following information as possible:
- Child’s demographic information (name, age, race, address, etc.);
- Role of the person legally responsible for the child;
- Reasons for your suspicion of abuse or neglect;
- And where the child is currently.
If the child is in immediate danger, please call 911 and then the SCR.
