Parent Workshops and Resources
Our comprehensive workshops are designed to provide educational opportunities for parents and caregivers on how best to keep their children safe. Our user-friendly resources for parents and caregivers are designed to support them in communicating with their children about child sexual abuse, online child sexual exploitation and safety. Workshops and materials are provided in English and Spanish, and workshops can be delivered in person or virtually.

Keeping Our Children Safe: A child sexual abuse prevention workshop for parents and caregivers

Our child sexual abuse prevention workshops are designed to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need to talk with their child about body safety and sexual abuse in an age-appropriate way. Parents and caregivers will learn about sexual abuse myths, facts and statistics, grooming and warning signs, and how to effectively respond if their child discloses abuse. Parents and caregivers will leave the workshop better equipped to keep their children safe from sexual abuse. Available in English and Spanish.

Keeping Our Children Safe Online: An online child sexual exploitation workshop for parents and caregivers

Our online child sexual exploitation prevention workshops are designed to equip parents and caregivers with the knowledge and skills they need to talk with their child about sexual abuse and exploitation that can occur online in an age-appropriate way. Parents and caregivers will learn about risks online, facts and statistics, online grooming and warning signs, and how to effectively respond if their child discloses exploitation. Taking Care of Ourselves: A workshop on managing stress for parents and caregivers

Our managing stress workshops are designed to support parents and caregivers with knowledge about different types of stress and help them identify their own stress reactions. Parents and caregivers will learn different coping strategies that they can use in stressful moments, as well as make a plan for long-term self-care. Parents and caregivers will leave the workshop better equipped to talk to their children about their own stress and teach them coping skills that can improve family wellness. Available in English and Spanish.
Understanding Trauma: Supporting Children to Heal

This workshop is designed to support parents and caregivers to learn about the different types of trauma and adverse childhood experiences (ACEs) and their impact on children and youth. Participants will gain an understanding of trauma reminders and how to support their child with relaxation and coping techniques. Participants will learn about protective factors, positive childhood experiences (PCEs), and how best to increase resiliency in children who have experienced trauma. Available in English and Spanish.
Knowing Your Rights: Understanding Child Welfare

This workshop is designed to provide parents and caregivers with an understanding of mandated reporting and child protection laws in New York State. Participants will learn the legal definitions of child abuse and maltreatment and the role of mandated reporters. Participants will gain knowledge of caregiver rights and will be better equipped to advocate for themselves and their children while navigating systems. Available in English and Spanish.
My Body Belongs to Me Workbook

Audience: Children (ages 5-9)
Available in English and Spanish, and an adapted version for children with autism and similar disabilities.
My Body Belongs to Me© is a fun and engaging children’s activity booklet designed to help parents and caregivers talk to their children about sexual abuse and body safety. The booklet complements The NYSPCC’s Safe Touches© workshops by reinforcing the program’s key concepts: identifying the private parts of the body, understanding the difference between safe and non-safe touches, and knowing how to protect oneself.
