Professional Trainings and Resources

The Training Institute offers a variety of educational opportunities designed to build capacity and support the professional development of individuals employed at schools, child welfare agencies and other youth-serving organizations in preventing abuse and supporting child safety and well-being. Trainings are offered in-person and virtually and can be tailored to each audience. We also provide in-depth training on the implementation of our best practice models so that other agencies can replicate our research-informed and evidence-based programs.

Preventing Child Sexual Abuse and Online Child Sexual Exploitation

  • Our comprehensive prevention trainings are designed to educate professionals on the definitions, facts and dynamics of child sexual abuse and online child sexual exploitation. Participants will leave with the tools, knowledge, and confidence they need to prevent, identify, and report child sexual abuse and online child sexual exploitation. These trainings are approved for social work CEU credits.

Identifying and Reporting Child Abuse and Maltreatment and Child Abuse in an Educational Setting

  • Our identifying and reporting child abuse and maltreatment and child abuse in an educational setting trainings are designed to teach mandated reporters and school personnel how to identify signs of abuse and maltreatment and understand their legal obligations for reporting under New York State Social Services Law and Education Law Article 23B. Trainings can be facilitated alone or together. These trainings are approved by the New York State Department of Education and result in a certificate of completion that can be filed with the state.

Understanding Trauma in Children

  • This training is designed to equip professionals with the essential knowledge needed to understand trauma and its impact on children. Participants will learn about different types of trauma and Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs), how trauma manifests in children and strategies to support children and contribute to their overall well-being. This training is approved for social work CEU credits.

Utilizing Trauma Responsive Care and Healing Centered Engagement Strategies

  • This training is designed to support professionals to understand and define trauma-responsive care and healing centered engagement. It will provide key strategies for participants to incorporate the following principles into their work with children, families and staff, and across systems of care: safety; trust and transparency; restoring power, voice and choice; collaboration and mutuality; peer support; and cultural, historical and gender issues. These trainings are approved for social work CEU credits.

Managing Secondary Traumatic Stress

  • This training is designed to teach professionals about the symptoms and impact of secondary traumatic stress that can result from working with children and families impacted by trauma. Through reflective activities and self-assessment tools, individuals will gain concrete skills to utilize immediately to prevent and offset the negative impacts of secondary traumatic stress and develop a stronger capacity for self-protection and self-care. These trainings are approved for social work CEU credits.

Safe Touches Facilitation and Implementation Training©

  • Safe Touches© is an evidence-based, age-appropriate child sexual abuse prevention program designed for children in kindergarten through third grade. The Safe Touches Facilitation and Implementation Training offers schools and agencies who wish to purchase the program model and implement the Safe Touches program an in-depth training on all aspects of the program. The multi-day training will walk participants through implementation logistics, puppeteering, facilitation, fidelity monitoring and data collection. Schools and agencies will receive all of the materials needed to implement a Safe Touches program in their community, as well as training materials to train other Safe Touches facilitators at their school or agency.

Restoring Resiliency Response Facilitation and Implementation Training©

  • The Restoring Resiliency Response (RRR)© protocol is a crisis debriefing model that was developed to specifically support child protection and other front-line staff after a critical incident, such as a child fatality. Individual or group sessions after a critical incident help to mitigate the impact of the incident and accelerate recovery. The RRR Facilitation and Implementation Training was designed to support agencies who wish to purchase the program model and implement the RRR protocol. The multi-day training will support agencies to determine their organizational readiness and walk participants through implementation logistics, facilitation, fidelity monitoring and data collection. Agencies will receive all of the materials needed to implement the RRR protocol in their agency, as well as training materials to train other RRR facilitators at their agency.

Consultations

  • The NYSPCC can provide schools and youth serving organizations with support and guidance on any child safety issue. Working collaboratively with leadership teams and staff, we can provide expert clinical and programmatic consultation to help ensure children are protected and organizations safeguarded.
