More About Our Crisis Debriefing and Bereavement Program
Our Crisis Debriefing and Bereavement Program serves child welfare and social service professionals exposed to primary and secondary traumatic stress. Using the Restoring Resiliency Response (RRR) model, the purpose of the sessions is to reduce the negative impact of a traumatic (not critical) incident and accelerate the recovery process for participants. The RRR model utilizes a strengths-based approach and differs from classical crisis debriefings in that it does not have an investigatory stance that requires staff to retell the details of the incident. Focus is placed on identifying the stress reactions currently being experienced by workers; exploring the effectiveness of current and past coping strategies; mobilizing support systems; and learning new strategies for self-care. Sessions are free to the participants, confidential and held during work hours, either at The NYSPCC, the participant’s work site or virtually. RRR facilitators are licensed therapists trained in trauma treatment.
