The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children

The American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC) is the leading national organization supporting professionals who serve children and families affected by child maltreatment and violence. The Association of Family and Conciliation Courts

The Association of Family and Conciliation Courts (AFCC) is an interdisciplinary and international association of professionals dedicated to improving the lives of children and families through the resolution of family conflict. The NYSPCC is a member of AFCC, and has published articles on its program models in its quarterly publication, the Family Court Review. The NYSPCC has also conducted workshops on its program models at the AFCC annual conference.

The New York City Family Court

The New York City Family Court adjudicates virtually all cases involving children and families throughout the City of New York. Types of cases include child abuse and neglect, child custody and visitation, family offenses (cases involving orders of protection), child support, and adoption. The Council is made up of the principal institutional entities operating in New York City’s Family Courts and meets regularly to be informed of important developments in the court and to provide input from the agency perspective

Colleges and Universities

The NYSPCC partners with the Silberman School of Social Work at Hunter College, New York University Silver School of Social Work, Fordham University Graduate School of Social Service, Columbia University School of Social Work, and Adelphi University School of Social Work by providing internship opportunities for students in Master’s-level social work programs. Through hands-on experience, and guided by talented and seasoned NYSPCC social workers, students obtain valuable knowledge and experience that will prepare them for future employment as social workers. Educating students about the child abuse protection and prevention field is a part of The NYSPCC’s mission and is imperative for the continuation of valuable and much needed social services.

Administration for Children’s Services

The Administration for Children’s Services (ACS) partners with several of The NYSPCC’s programs. ACS refers low-income, high-risk families to The NYSPCC for Therapeutic Supervised Visitation and Trauma Recovery programs. In 2020, ACS provided grant funding for The NYSPCC to evaluate its Therapeutic Supervised Visitation program more rigorously.

Brooklyn and Manhattan Integrated Domestic Violence Courts

The NYSPCC receives a steady stream of referrals for the agency’s Therapeutic Supervised Visitation and Trauma Recovery programs from the Brooklyn and Manhattan Integrated Domestic Violence Courts.

Parenting Journey

In 2019, The NYSPCC began offering Parenting Journey classes to non-custodial parents participating in the agency’s Therapeutic Supervised Visitation Program. The NYSPCC’s Research and Evaluation Department has been working closely with Parenting Journey to better understand the program’s impact on urban families who have experienced multi-generational trauma.

Nebraska Division of Children and Family Services and Quality Improvement Center for Workforce Development at the University of Nebraska-Lincoln

Time: 2019 – present
Services Provided: Consultation, Training, Curriculum and Material Development, Program Evaluation
Partnership Overview: Child welfare agencies experience high rates of turnover among their staff. To help combat this the Nebraska Division of Children and Family Services and the University of Nebraska have partnered with The NYSPCC to implement its Restoring Resiliency Response (RRR) crisis debriefing protocol as part of a multi-component intervention to address secondary traumatic stress (STS) among frontline workers and supervisors across the state. The partnership is part of a larger nationally funded project looking to test and evaluate workforce strategies aimed at improving worker recruitment, retention and satisfaction.

The Athlete Assistance Fund

Time: 2019 – present
Services Provided: Consultation, Training, Curriculum and Material Development, Program Evaluation
Partnership Overview: In response to the Larry Nassar sexual abuse scandal that sent shockwaves through the gymnastics community and the United States, the Athlete Assistance Fund (AAF), an independent, not-for-profit,  has dedicated themselves to educating the gymnastics community on how to best keep gymnasts safe and providing free counseling services to those who have suffered sexual abuse within the sport. In 2019, AAF enlisted The NYSPCC to support their efforts to make changes within the sport to prevent further victimization.

Penn State University – The Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative, University Park, Pennsylvania

Time: 2018 - Present
Services provided: Training and Consultation
Partnership overview: The Safe and Healthy Communities Initiative (SHCI), a cooperative project between Penn State’s Child Maltreatment Solutions Network (CMSN) and the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), aims to reduce rates of child sexual abuse in Pennsylvania through a three-year research initiative that implements evidence-based programs and methodologies targeting the general public, students, and parents. Following a rigorous selection process, of programs nationwide, The NYSPCC’s evidence-based Safe Touches program was chosen as the student intervention program for the project.

The Horace Mann School, Bronx, New York

Services provided: Policy and Procedure Review and Audit, Training, and Consultation
Partnership overview: The NYSPCC partnered with The Horace Mann School in 2012 to help them develop and implement best-practice policies and procedures for child safety and protection and provided comprehensive training to protect children and educate teachers, staff, and the school community about child sexual abuse prevention.

ELIZA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (ELIZA), Athens, Greece

Time: 2016 - Present
Services provided: Training and Consultation
Partnership overview:
Statistics show one in six Greek children are victims of at least one incident of sexual abuse during childhood. Greece lacked primary prevention programs for sexual abuse, and the systems and infrastructure to support victims of abuse are virtually non-existent. To help remedy this problem, in 2016, The NYSPCC partnered with the ELIZA Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children to implement a ground-breaking child sexual abuse prevention initiative throughout Greece.
